Im only a teenager but i want to visit africa and help the community...HELPP!!!?

In school the other day we had a human rights day...I was not at school that day, however, they put up pictures showing what was occuring in Africa today. Those pictures made me tear, knowing that some children and people live like that. A baby was lying on the floor, dying. Another child, with tears strolling down his face, naked, unable to afford clothes/shoes. I realized I wanted to make a difference in these children%26#039;s lives. I just doint know what to do...is it possible for me to travel to Africa in the summer with a teen tour? I know there are so many diseases there, and I dont want to get sick, of course, which is why I%26#039;m wondering if its possible...my friend and I really want to make a difference. On American idol, when they go there and play with the kids, seeing a smile shine on their face makes me smile. I really want to help out and I will take things for granted from now on.

There are many volunteer organizations that take summer students as young as 17.

Here are a few places to start looking. Some are foundation names I know about (and/or have worked with), others are web sites, others are books to help guide you:

Ashoka Foundation

Gates Foundation

US junior ambassador program

Start here, and see where your inquiries take you. You might start by familiarizing yourself with cross-cultural outreach programs in America, as some programs may be near where you live (assuming you live in the US. if not, your country most likely has similar programs). A good example I can think of is Heifer International%26#039;s learning centers and community outreach programs.

Keep looking- you%26#039;ll find something.
Reply:i know just how you feel man...
Reply:i think you should look more into it. i think its great and inspiring to be this way at such a young age. such an unselfish act. i love it and thank god for those that think and act as you when it comes to the need of others. God bless!!
Reply:Help your family first. Mom, Dad, and brothers and sisters. Then, look after others. Don%26#039;t get caught up in childish notions of saving the world. It%26#039;s spiritual healing the world needs, not another spoonful of gruel. Bless you for being such a nice person. This society is sicker than Africa%26#039;s.
Reply:There are many opportunities for teens and others to travel the world and participate in cultural exchanges and humanitarian efforts.

One such group is: www.crossculturalsolutions.org

I am not a teen but I have traveled to Peru and Thailand with this org. My niece is traveling to Ghana this summer with another group.

I am part of an online, international group of friends who support a school and children%26#039;s home in the slums of Kenya. I have visited 5x and plan to move there for a part of the year in the near future.

Follow your heart. It will be an incredible, live changing experience.

Reply:They shouldn%26#039;t need any help. The blacks claim to have built America. Why can%26#039;t they build Africa? With all the BS on this site about how great they are you would think Africa would be the greatest nation in the world.
